Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is a holiday that is celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday in Lent.  The tradition of Mother's Day in the UK has its roots in the Christian holiday of Mothering Sunday, which was a day when people would return to their "mother" church or cathedral.  Over time, this holiday evolved into a day when people would visit their mothers and bring them gifts and flowers.

In the UK, the modern celebration of Mother's Day began in the early 20th century, when a woman named Constance Penswick-Smith started a campaign to create a day to honour and celebrate mothers.  Her efforts were supported by other women's groups and eventually led to the creation of Mother's Day as we know it today.

Today, Mother's Day in the UK is a day when people show appreciation for their mothers and mother figures by giving them gifts, cards, and flowers. It is a day to celebrate the love and sacrifices that mothers make for their children and families.

A definition of ‘gift’ is “the transfer of something without the expectation of payment”.  It is an expression of love or friendship, and people receiving a gift receive a psychological boost which apparently releases endorphins to the brain producing feelings of happiness, pleasure and joy.  I kind of feel this way about GIVING a gift too to be honest, I love shopping for that perfect present.

Some of our most treasured items are often gifts from relatives or friends.  There is a special association between the giver and the gift, especially when it’s something that the receiver really appreciates and it makes their day.

As a mother of two, I personally love to cook and bake and I'm passionate about creating delicious and nutritious meals for my family.  I know I'm not alone in this, and many other mothers around the world enjoy experimenting with different recipes and ingredients to create meals that are both healthy and tasty. Some mums also enjoy baking, creating cakes, cookies, and other treats for special occasions or just for fun.

Over the years, myself and my husband have had to become quite creative in the kitchen, as feeding our children isn't always straightforward as they have a myriad of food intolerances.  Regardless, we've been rather creative over the years... and just for fun... here is a sneak peek at a few of our past efforts :)  (and yes, my husband is almost as crazy as I am!)
